the
mozleys have a
thriving work in evangelism and pastoral training,
leadership development, Emmaus Walk ministry, and children's
ministry in Ghana. Mike travels extenively in Ghana
encouraging national pastors and newly planted church
caretakers. Claire has a home-based ministry which
includes the Adiebeba Bible Club for children and an
international ladies' Bible study. The Mozley's desire
is to raise up national leaders who have a heart for
the lost and unreadched people groups.

Health while on the field, Traveling mercies, Fruitful
ministry in the Ghanaian culture
Dear Friends and Family,
It’s been more than several months and seems
like years since I’ve written an update. Please
forgive my tardiness.
First and foremost is a scripture that has recently
been deeply impressed on my spirit… Paul says
to the Philippians, “I want to know Christ and
the POWER of HIS Resurrection and the fellowship of
sharing in HIS sufferings, becoming like Him in His
death and so somehow to attain to the resurrection
from the dead.”(Phil 3:10) Oh that this scripture
would be realized deep within my soul.
And a quote from Oswald Chambers, “My
goal is God Himself, not joy, nor peace, nor even blessing,
but Himself my God.”
African Regional Coordinator:
In late November I really began the tangible act of
being African Regional Coordinator by traveling to
Kenya and Tanzania to help initiate the planning for
our first two couples going to Kenya. I also visited
the Spitaleris and Grant Miller in Tanzania. God orchestrated
every part of my trip. We are excited as we strategize
for reaching every region of Africa.
Big Events:
Most recently we had the first International Missions
Conference in the Methodist Church Ghana, celebrating
170 years of missions in Ghana. Between 1835 and 1837
three missionary couples came to serve in the former
Gold Coast Colony of England and within six weeks to
six months of their arrival, they were all dead. But
the first couple had established the Methodist Church
and they helped to train a Fante man named De Graft
that would be the first Ghanaian to work with missionaries
to establish more churches throughout West Africa.
Thomas Birch Freeman and his wife Elizabeth arrived
at Cape Coast in January of 1838, within two months
his wife also died. He later sent a letter back to
the Wesley Missionary Society to send more missionaries!
Would to God that such a fire and passion would burn
in our hearts that though several die attempting to
share the Gospel, yet more would still be willing to
come!
What a glory it was from March 28-April 1 as Ghanaians
stood and shared of the thankfulness of those who went
before and those who sacrificed greatly. Acknowledgment
was made about past mistakes from both missionaries
and Ghanaians yet the participants are now looking
to the future to be more missions focused in every
arena of ministry and to be more culturally relevant.
It was great to have representatives from The Gambia,
Liberia, Togo and several Ghanaian delegates, which
included many bishops of the various dioceses. Jeff
DeJarnett, seasoned missionary of 11 years to France,
faithfully did all the interpretation in French for
our French speaking delegates. MSUM V.P. for Field
Ministries, Rev. Frank Decker did a great job representing
our home office and communicating the Gospel in this
missions setting.
The Big Picture:
As we began our ministry here, we had no idea what
God had in store for us but with the culmination of
the 1st Missions Conference we now see a new hunger
in the pastors and evangelists throughout Ghana. God
brought me the fire brand of Joseph Otsin back in the
Fall of 1999 and together we have traversed across
this country building relationships with people like
Rev. Manu Yeboah in Yendi, where there are more Mosques
than churches and the political upheaval has kept the
entire region under curfew for two years. Working with
men like Rev. James Salia who serves in Lawra, one
of the poorest areas in Ghana is one of my greatest
privileges as a missionary. Bishop Atto-Brown has also
taken hold of the vision as he leads the entire Northern
Diocese in church planting and renewal. It makes it
worth the thousands of miles traveled, the teams we’ve
brought to the North to motivate and encourage the
people of Ghana to have hope and purpose to win their
country to Christ and to look beyond their borders
to the surrounding countries that are in need. God
is fulfilling that vision.
Freeman Centre for Missions and Leadership Development:
A dream is being realized in the construction and reconstruction
of the Freeman Centre. When I first arrived here almost
six years ago, the Freeman Centre was being used to
train our conference evangelists. They would come from
all over the country and stay in wretched housing conditions.
As we say in Ghana, “It would pain me deeply.” Now
with the vision and passion of our presiding Bishop
behind us, we now have a management board that is proactive
and we are believing that God will use this place to
shape West African Christianity. We have a five fold
ministry:
1. training leaders of all walks of life
2. training folks for missionary service from all over
the world
3. curriculum development for every educational
level within the church
4. conference and retreat centre
that can house and host up to 300 people
5. resource
development to train people to be equipped in varying
trades irrespective of educational level.
Truly it plans to be a holistic centre that will equip
many people in many walks of life. This is one of many
major projects that we are trying to raise funds for.
If God touches your heart and you want to join us,
please contact The Mission Society and they will gladly
assist you.
Short term team ministry:
We just recently had a team from Wesleyan Fellowship
and they ministered in the North with our pastor friend
Charles Dagore as well as in our own backyard. God
used them, broke them and opened their hearts up to
the ministry that God is calling them into. We are
now expecting four more teams in the next two months.
Washington Crossing UMC from PA will be here from April
22-30. An Asbury College group will be here from May
12-22. Grace UMC from Cape Coral, FL arrives on May
27th and finally Mt. Bethel UMC from Marietta, Ga will
be here on June 4th to work with our good friend, Rev.
Louise Timothy at her Obuasi orphanage. It’s
great to enable some of these teams to set out on their
own with my able assistant Eddie who knows all the
ropes about leading short term teams.
Stateside Ministry:
One of the wildest times in my ministry was traveling
back to the States in February to speak in several
mission conferences. I spoke 25 times in five states
and traveled over 6,000 air miles in five and a half
weeks. It was refreshing, exhausting and exciting to
see what God is doing in so many places throughout
the States and in various churches. I sense a new hunger
and passion to reach the lost all over the world in
the local church.
Family Ministry:
Claire and the kids are all doing fantastic. Claire
continues to watch over nearly 80 kids every Monday
with her great assistants, Ernestina and George. We
are now seeing the older youth begin to lead ministry
in many avenues. It’s exciting to see mentoring
in action. Her Thursday morning Bible study is rich
and rewarding as well. Anna and Maggie continue to
visit and minister at the Adullam orphanage and occasionally
bring a little fellow named Ricky to our home. Janna,
the girl’s school teacher, is planning a youth
retreat next weekend and many missionary kids are excited
about that retreat. Luke is loving school and playing
football (soccer) every day with his friends at school
and again when he gets home with me.
Furlough:
We are planning to come back to the states for our
longest furlough ever, from mid June to late December.
It will be our first Thanksgiving with our family since
1998 and our first Christmas since 2000 in America.
Anna will attend the local high school where I went
as well as where all my siblings and my mom attended.
Maggie and Luke will hopefully be together at a Christian
school not far from where we are staying in Marietta.
I’ll close for now even though I’m busting
with things to share that God is doing, it’ll
have to keep for another update in a few weeks.
Keep seeking the face of Jesus,
Please note Claire now has her own email and would
love corresponding with many of you. Her new email
address is clairemozley@dslghana.com |
